do make say think.

snowed-over but not snowed-in! never snowed-in, really...no matter how terrible it is to get to work. grrrr.

those are the steps to my house. they are more of an unnavigable pain in the ass than they look.

no lies, the past week....actually, the past since-2010-started, has been a wicked hell. i already have a handful of things to throw on the worst-of-2010 list, including having the flu, being stalked and sexually harassed, messing up at work, losing my transit pass...and of course, struggling to survive the horrible, horrible winter. but alas...gotta look ahead and not backwards.

here's a list of pleasant activities to engage in when many of life's other circumstances seem abysmal.

1. order pretty things and get them in the mail.
ysl arty ovale ring in turquoise (finally).

2. look at picture books.
that's 1980's hervé léger. can't remember which book.

3. make hot and delicious food.
chocolate chili! my own recipe: pinto beans, chickpeas, corn, petite diced tomatoes, bell pepper, red onion, garlic....and dark chocolate, cinnamon, allspice, clove, ancho and chipotle chilies, cumin, bay leaves and hot chili powder. just throw everything in a pot in whatever proportions you see fit and let the flavors slow-cook together - delicious, effortless, virtually foolproof. TRY IT.

impulse buy.

the title is redundant. all gilt purchases are impulse buys by default, no?

anyway, these gold loafers. they kinda look like creepers. $24 after credits at the jeffrey campbell sale on gilt fuse today.

i hate sweaters.

i really hate sweaters. they are: 1) itchy, 2) unshapely and unflattering, 3) heavy, 4) space-consuming.

but i found this one at the thrift store for ten cents (...which is about what the temperature is right now). it's nearly an inch thick and weighs a ton. but it's really warm and doesn't itch too badly...and i got a fair number of compliments on it for whatever reason.

soooooo okay, whatever.

FINE PRINT.

i just ordered these LOVELY shoes but did not see the fine print that says they're potentially backordered until april 30.

this poses a problem because...i change my mind quickly and probably won't like them anymore by then.

on the other hand, i do live in snowed-over chicago where i probably wouldn't be able to wear real shoes until april 30 anyway.

whatever. it's still a wash.

pretty color combo.

i saw this outfit (worn while out and about in tokyo, by the way!) on mwa mwa's chictopia today:

the color palate reminded me immediately of this:

i can't say i like those colors individually, but together, they look prettttttttty. WANT.

and by WANT i mean i think i need $75 worth of nail color, and then some items of pretty neutral tones built into my wardrobe. oh yeah, and those exact same pink tights.

what happens when you obsess over a sold-out $4 ring.

you end up having to get it in the other color - in this case, black.

and then you try to compensate for the lack of gold by picking up an extra two pieces of jewel-encrusted gold. for another $4.

so what do ya think? too much cheap jewelry for one hand?

never!

what happens when you wait to get something.

at the top of my wishlist right now is a simple metal two-finger ring. although i'm (sort of) avoiding forever21, i came across the PERFECT ring of this sort on their website. behold the cross connecter ring. it's four dollars.

i didn't order it, because i have trouble with the principle of paying $6 shipping on a $4 ring. i even scoured the website in search of other items of desire to even out the shipping costs before i gave up and decided to walk over to the store to see if i could just pick it up there instead. no luck.

after seeing the ring featured on pretty in leather AND wr2bam last night (and my, how bold and glorious it looks), i decided that if i just thought of it as a $10 ring, i wouldn't be bothered as much in principle. so i went to the website to order it...and it's GONE now. only black in size m/l left.

says jenna, 'i can't believe you waffled so much on a 4 dollar ring that its now unobtainable. 4 dollars.'
